Canadian Maple Syrup: The History, Research and Benefits
We are all bombarded by the beauty and cosmetic commercials that encourage us to pamper our skin. But, do you know what ingredients are in these products?
Over the last decade, consumers have become more health conscious and have taken a mindful approach to skincare, hygiene and personal care products. At MapleX, we are committed to producing all natural formulations made from only the best nature has to offer.
Here, in Canada, we have a best-kept secret; at least when it comes to hair, skin and face products anyway! We want to introduce the benefits of our Maple Syrup with you so that you can benefit from a more youthful and healthier skin.
The Origins of Maple Syrup
One cannot separate this sweet delight from Canada. Everywhere you go, maple syrup is a proud tradition carried on through the ages.
Native American Maple Traditions
Most of the stories about the origins of maple syrup, and how we came to use it as a food source, goes back to the Native Americans. This includes the Abenaki, Haudenosaunee and Mi’kmaq. They are said to be the first ones to actually consume or cook with the sap taken from sugar maple trees.
These indigenous people were known to prepare their venison, in sweet water. This brought about the process known as maple-cured meats. They continued to use the maple curing method to preserve their food during the long winter months.
Later, in the 1700s and 1800s, farmers tend to use it as a sugar supplement and even sold it during the low milk production seasons.
The Nutritional Content of Maple Syrup
Maple Syrup is the closest substances to honey. It is considered a natural sweetener.
When its nutritional content is examined closely, you will find that there is plenty of calcium, tin, copper, zinc, iron, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. At all times, you want to get the best quality product, which is graded “A” and has a rich golden colour and taste.
Anything else is of a substandard “processing” quality and not considered pure maple syrup.
Though, this product is usually consumed with pancakes. Over the last couple of years, there is attention drawn to the idea of cosmetic formulations developed to produce all natural beauty and skincare products infused with Canadian maple syrup.
